BookMark

Concept and Branding (and rebranding)

BookMark started as a semester long project (turned year-long project) intending to explore the digital note-taking tools offered to book readers and diving into research to better understand the core audience.

The point? Avoid messy scribbles, highlights and post-it notes in your physical books.

The outcome: A fully branded mobile app that allows users to take digital notes, no matter the reading form (physical copy, audiobook or eBook).

After the spring semester concluded, I spent the summer semester rebranding BookMark. I created a logo, updated brand colors, and executed a marketing campaign by targeting genre-specific readers.

Phase Two: Capstone

Up next, my final semester. BookMark's brand was in a good place, and I felt confident moving forward with it as my Capstone project.

While I was ready to keep pushing forward, there was a tiny voice in the back of my mind telling me this was a moment to pause for reflection.

I first spent time remembering the purpose of BookMark and where it started – a whopping 16 books that reignited my love of reading and opened up a new community of people to connect with.

After user research, many conversations with peers, professors and readers, I discovered the obvious next step: BookMark needed space for a reading community.

This led me to expanding the existing prototype with community in mind, relying on the community of readers to inform user the user journey.

The Prototype

Here is BookMark's final prototype, which is being used to inform development planning and implementation. Feel free to click around on this mobile view of the app to see more features (and reach out if you want to know more, seriously I could chat about BookMark for hours).

(wait, there's more)

For BookMark's next phase, a patent application has been filed and native app development planning has begun.

Stick around for an update on when BookMark will be available for download at an app store near you!
